Functions of the Board

1. to advise and carry out schemes aimed at encouraging people within and outside the country to visit the State
2. to identify, preserve, protect and develop tourism
3. to undertake and engage in hospitality, trade and travel services or projects
4. to coordinate, regulate, control and monitor the activities of hospitality, travel and tourism organizations in the State
5. to provide technical assistance to willing investors in tourism business in the State
6. to undertake necessary promotional activities by engaging in internet services, mass enlightenment campaigns, production of promotional materials, organizing and participating at National and International Trade Fairs, Exhibitions and Conferences
7. to establish in the State and Local Government Areas Tourism Committees for the purpose of advising the Board on Tourism attractions and activities in the State and Local Government Areas
8. to recommend to the State Government appropriate incentive schemes to be extended to willing investors in tourism industry in the State
9. to collect and collate tourist statistics and other information related to tourism activities
10. to assess and analyze the information on it's activities and report to relevant authorities; Authority
11. to assist the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation in the discharge of it's statutory functions
12. to regulate, classify, grade and monitor hotels, restaurants, bakeries, event centers, suya and baked fish spots, nightclubs, cinemas, viewing centers and similar places
13. to require hotels, event centers and other tourism establishments to provide update information with respect to their operations
14. to provide camping, fishing and hunting facilities within the State rivers, holiday resorts and game reserves
15. to report any suspicious activities uncovered or plan to be perpetrated from the operation of hotels, restaurants, bakeries, event centers, suya and baked fish spot, nightclubs and similar establishments any issue or issues bothering on Financial Crimes to the relevant financial Big Crimes Establishments
16. to report any suspicious crime or any plan to commit a crime or other acts capable of endangering the sovereignty of the nation any uncovered planned to be perpetrated from the operation of hotels, restaurants, bakeries, event centers, suya and baked fish spot, nightclubs and similar 10 esestablishments to the Police;
17. to effect arrest on violation of this or any other Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to immediately hand over the suspect to the Police; Security agencies
18. to prescribe the standards to be observed by travel agencies, tour operators, hospitality, event management and entertainment outfits as well as tourism guidelines in the State
19. to make investments and promote the development of the following facilities in the State
    • holiday resorts and amusement parks
    • natural scenic areas
    • souvenir industry
    • lakes for swimming and fishing
    • monuments, theme parks, museums and commemorative plaques
    • to carry out any undertaking which appears to the Board to be necessary for the promotion and development of tourism industry in the state
